Breakfast with the Birds Bayou Sauvage NWR

Come join refuge volunteers Sundays, February 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 10, 17, 24 and 31 at 8:00 a.m. for a free Breakfast with the Birds program at the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge Ridge Trail. These informal nature walks are for all ages and will cover a variety of topics such as bird identification, wildlife observation, basic plant identification, habitat restoration projects and more. The walk is a perfect opportunity to get outside in a fun and safe setting while learning about the local area’s flora and fauna.
We will meet at the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge Ridge Trail at 8:00 a.m., the program’s duration will be 1 ½ - 2 hours. After the program, bring your own bagged breakfast to enjoy at the Ridge Trail pavilion as you tally species spotted throughout the guided walk. Loaner binoculars are available upon request, please email refuge volunteer Sandi Wicklund at sandiwicklund@gmail.com to reserve your loaner binoculars today! Be sure to dress for the weather.

Directions to Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge Ridge Trail:
Directions from Slidell: Take I-10 west. At the end of the I-10 twin span bridge over Lake Ponchartrain, take Irish Bayou #254/Hwy 11 exit. Turn left onto Hwy 11 and follow until the Hwy 11 and Hwy 90/Chef Menteur Hwy then turn right. Ridge Trail access is approximately 2 miles on the right.
Directions from New Orleans: Take I-10 east to exit #246A (Chalmette, I-510); about 2 miles south on I-510 to Highway 90 East exit; turn left onto Hwy 90 and approximately 4 miles to reach the Ridge Trail access.
