Red-cockaded woodpecker Management and Conservation

Pelican Park, Recreation District #1 through its Environmental Education program is partnering with the LA Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Eric Baka, the Red-cockaded Woodpecker Safe Harbor Coordinator to give a presentation via Zoom about the red-cockaded woodpecker (Dryobates borealis). Listed in 1970 as endangered, red-cockaded woodpeckers’ range is only about 1 percent of their original range. It has protected habitat in St. Tammany Parish on the former SE LA Hospital grounds. Eric will talk about the habitat and overall management of the red-cockaded woodpecker.
