Learning Landscapes Volunteer Training

Tuesday, February 25 2020

4:30PM – 7PM
Sitton Elementary School
9930 N Smith St, Portland, OR 97203

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with our Learning Landscapes Program! Learning Landscapes works with students and teachers to plant trees at their school.

Learning Landscapes Volunteer Requirements
This training is for people who want to help students plant trees. To attend, please be able to:
• Volunteer during school hours
• Get a background check – if you have not already completed one with PP&R, we can do so at the training.

Training Purpose
Planting at schools is a different process than our traditional community plantings. The purpose of this training is to give you an idea of what to expect on planting day and to understand your role as a volunteer. This will ensure we can provide fun, safe and efficient school plantings together.

Training Agenda
• Brush up on how to properly plant a tree and how to teach others to do the same!
• Learn about the Learning Landscapes program and process.
• Learn your role as a volunteer on planting day and what to expect working with student groups.
• Sign up for projects on the calendar this spring!

The first portion of this training will be outside to plant a tree while we still have light! We will be outside for about an hour so be sure to dress for the weather. After we plant a tree, we will head inside for dinner and the remainder of the training.

Accommodations
• Pizza and drinks will be provided – let us know if you have any dietary needs/restrictions.
• No childcare, no problem- Bring your little ones along! Let us know if you will have kids and we'll have activities ready for them.
• Need help with transportation? We can get you a TriMet pass!
We want to make this training as accessible as possible. For these, or any other accommodations you may need, please email Molly at molly.wilson@portlandoregon.gov
