Your Tree, Right Place
Tuesday, August 11 2020
What kind of tree should I plant? It's a questions many Portlanders have to address each year, and one that will last a lifetime. Choosing the right tree for you is more than just a choice of aesthetic and desired attributes - you also want the tree to survive. The cost of a new tree is anywhere from $150-$300, and then you add on mulch, tools for care, all of the time you took to plant and care for your tree – it would be heartbreaking to see it die, especially if the cause was preventable before planting.
Taking time to evaluate and assess the site where you want to plant a tree will help to guide your tree species selection - and may even introduce you to new trees you never knew existed. Urban Forestry Arborists will teach you what to consider while selecting a planting location and selecting a tree species - and demonstrate how to perform your site evaluation.
Please pre-register, an invitation to join the webinar will be sent to registered attendees on 8/11/20 with the link to join the webinar.
The workshop will begin promptly at 9:00 am, please note that ufvolunteers@portlandoregon.gov email will not be checked during the scheduled program time.
Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry's mission is to manage and ensure Portland's urban forest infrastructure for current and future generations. Portland’s urban forest consists of 236,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and innumerable private property trees. Urban Forestry is involved in managing or regulating all of these trees to differing degrees. Urban Forestry staff issue permits for planting, pruning, and removal of all public and some private trees and are on call 24/7 to respond to tree emergencies.
