Self-Help Conservatorship Clinics (Virtual/Remote)

Conservatorship is a legal proceeding where a judge can appoint a person or organization (conservator) to act on behalf of another individual (conservatee) who is suffering from a major impairment and is unable to care for their own person/secure their basic needs. Visitors to the Self-Help Conservatorship Clinic are seeking legal intervention to assist an adult who is unable to care for their person and/or finances. Bet Tzedek Legal Services helps families navigate the conservatorship court process through free Self-Help Conservatorship Clinics.

Your Role:
Via Zoom, Self-Help Conservatorship Clinic volunteers:
• Review litigants’ completed informational questionnaires,
• When necessary, contact litigants via telephone to gather missing information, and
• Complete a full set of Conservatorship petition forms (via easy-to-use web-based platform).

For the first hour of the clinic, our expert staff will conduct a one hour, CLE eligible training designed to teach you all about the Conservatorship process and how to complete petitions. The subsequent two hours are spent working individually on the clinic work, with Bet Tzedek staff available at all times in the Zoom for questions and guidance.

This is a discrete, one-and-done clinic opportunity. Clinic work is considered completed upon email submission of completed forms to Bet Tzedek staff.

We need volunteers for the clinic on Thursday, February 24, 12 - 3 pm. If you are available then, or would like to be notified of available spots at a later monthly clinic, please email Rachael Ettinger, at rettinger@bettzedek.org.
