Apartment Information: The Nene family lives in the entire house. When you arrive, knock on the front door. Someone in their family will answer. There are various levels of English spoken within the family, so you should be able to communicate fairly easily with them. If needed, the father also speaks French and Kiswahili, which you can access using Google Translate on your phone. Our Case Manger has already told them about their appointments, but they might be moving pretty slowly, so you might have to encourage them to pick up their speed to get to the appointment.
Appointment Information: The appointments are supposed to begin at 10am (Mafaume – Mother), 10:30am (Kamulete – Father), and 11:30am (Nazareth – 18 year old) with Dr. Natalia Golub
When you arrive: Go in with the family. There is a parking garage across from the front door and they’ll give you a parking pass at the clinic’s check in desk, OR you can park right on Alexander – there always seems to be a spot on the street and it’s free, and then you just walk up the sidewalk to the big glass doors. While they are visiting the doctor, you can wait in the waiting room. They will have an interpreter during the appointment. If they need any prescriptions or bloodwork done afterwards, they should let you know at the front desk or you can ask before you leave (or it will be on the paperwork they give her at the end of the appointment and you can check what it says).
At the end of the appointment: They will probably need to have additional tests and/or prescriptions. Both the lab and the pharmacy are on the second floor where that would happen – so you would take the elevators back down to the second floor, turn right, and the bloodwork lab is on the left and the pharmacy on the right. They will not have Medicaid Cards yet, but the pharmacy has our credit card on file, so you could tell them to charge it to World Relief. If they get prescribed any over the counter medication, we recommend that you bring them to a pharmacy. You can stop by our office to get our Credit Card and purchase it at the CVS right near us, or you can pay with your own card and save the receipt for reimbursement.
Extra Details: If you have a World Relief Volunteer Lanyard, please wear it.
Things at the clinic are usually very smooth – they see all the refugees who come to town.
