World Relief Sacramento

World Relief is looking for an English Assessment volunteer to help administer a placement test for incoming clients in order to determine their English language level. We use the CASAS, a standardized test that assesses clients’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking. You don’t need to have prior experience assessing students, as the test is fairly straightforward to administer and score. Plus there is an online training session that you’ll complete to orient you to the CASAS and certify you to administer the test. You’ll then team up with a WR staff member to co-administer the test a number of times, and finally assess clients on your own.

The ideal volunteer will:
· Be committed and reliable
· Be able to communicate basically with clients with minimal English from various language backgrounds
· Follow procedures carefully and pay attention to details
· Be friendly but firm-- able to reassure nervous test takers yet manage those who try to copy others’ answers!
Commitment: 1 day per week, 2 hours at a time, for 10 weeks
