RePurse It!
Thursday, July 25 2024
Michelle M is hosting a fundraiser for Anney’s Closet. For those that don’t know Anney’s is an organization
under the Soroptimist International Victoria Westshore (SIVW). We aim to help women leaving
unsafe situations, young women aging out of Foster Care, youth on a youth agreement (where they
get the legal right to live on their own under the age of 18) and most recently refugees from
countries like the Ukraine, Ethiopia, Iran etc.
We are very grateful for the donation of our shopping lockers for over 10 years now at the ULock
Storage facility in Colwood.
The fundraiser I am doing involves collecting Nearly New/Gently Used purses and re-PURSING
them by selling them for very reasonable pricing like $10, $20, $30/each. My goal is to get at least
100 purses which if sold at $10/each would raise $1,000 for Anney’s. Also, for sale will be pottery,
some wonderful soap packages (fundraising for Soap for Hope, one of our partners), jewelry and
raffle items! Sample items below. With thanks to my favourite Sidney jeweler Wendy Pierson of
Island Rain for donating the necklace and earrings for a raffle prize.

All the time for Anney’s for both our shopping dates where we meet
with a support worker and their client as well as our Donation Days
where we accept gently used goods from the community is done by
volunteers.
Our costs are related to renting some lockers for furniture which
recently got covered by the Westshore Charity Golf Tournament, as
well as purchasing personal care bags at $15/each from Soap for Hope, making up New Beginnings
baskets which are new laundry baskets full of cleaning products, toilet paper etc., and gift cards to
WalMart. In 2024 we will serve over 130 clients in addition to their dependents.
