Restore The Forest - Land Steward Day
Saturday, October 10 2020
Meet at Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve - address below.
We'll be tackling our reforestation area along the yellow trail. We'll remove our usual foes, Autumn olive, Linden viburnum, Honeysuckle vines, Privet, and Multiflora roses. All of these are terribly invasive plants that are throwing off the delicate balance of the ecosystems on the property. We will also repair tree tubes that protect saplings while they grow, clean out the tubes, and remove vines growing on tree tubes and cages. This is rigorous work on uneven terrain in a wooded area. Volunteers must be High School age or older, should be in good physical shape and willing to work hard. We will provide instructions and overview on site. Masks must be worn properly, covering both mouth and nose, during instruction and whenever working in close proximity with other volunteers or staff.
Dress for the weather and working outdoors. sturdy shoes, long pants, long sleeves. If it's cold: dress in layers. No puff jackets! (briars will rip them open) If you are allergic to poison ivy, we recommend applying an ivy guard type product on your hands, arms, and ankles prior to coming.
Bring your gloves, pruning shears, mallet, and loppers if you have them. We are LOW ON TOOLS!!
Bring your filled water bottle.
The exact meeting spot on the property will be sent via email to all registrants.
