Second Saturday Grandma’s Creek Tree Seedling Planting
Saturday, March 08 2025
DPR staff have offered to do a tree planting event at Grandma's Creek Park for our March event. I'm excited to have a change from our usual invasive plant removal! We will be working in a different part of the park than usual, as well. Please come to the WEST SIDE of Grandma's Creek Park, at the end of 6th St S, off of S Abingdon St. For Google purposes, use the address 4729 6th ST S. This area was selected by DPR because there are upcoming projects at both the 5th St S entrance (stormwater control grant from US Fish and Wildlife Foundation) and along S Pershing Dr (Arlington Neighborhoods Program funded park restoration project). The 6th St S park area is due some TLC, in addition to our RIP back in December!
We will be planting and caging tree seedlings and putting some live stakes close to the water line for those who are able to safely get down into the creek bed or stormwater runoff gullies. DPR will provide all the necessary tools. We will also have gloves, if you don't want to use your own. Sue Jung Kim, of DPR, will provide training and guidance on these projects. As always, please dress to protect against poison ivy and ticks, wear sturdy shoes, especially if interested in doing the live stake planting, and bring drinking water.
