OREGON BATTLE OF THE BOOK TEAM
The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) Team helps coordinate and facilitate reading activities, supports team preparation, assists with event logistics, and ensures a positive experience for students participating in the OBOB program.

DESCRIPTION
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is an extra-curricular reading club for students in grades 3-8. Students dive into great books, form teams, and take part in thrilling quiz show-style battles at local, regional, and state levels! OBOB is powered by parents, who volunteer as coaches for small groups of 4-5 students .

VISION
The vision of OBOB coaches is to inspire a love of reading, foster teamwork and critical thinking, and empower students to engage confidently in literary discussions, while cultivating a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment that promotes lifelong learning.

JOBS/TASKS
OBOB volunteers do the following:
Read division books
Organize practices for 4-5 students
Write eNews blurbs
Coordinate and communicate closely with the School Community Coordinator
Other tasks as requested by the OBOB Coordinator

ROLES
Seeking 1 person to serve as the OBOB Coordinator and an additional 7+ volunteers to serve as OBOB Coaches.

EVENT DATES
Regional Tournaments: March 1 through March 22, 2025 at TBD
State Tournament: April 12, 2025 at Chemeketa Community College, Salem

OBOB Coordinator
Recruits parents to be volunteer coaches, schedules meetings in the Ridgeline Library, receives official OBOB questions, and handles the family communication throughout the OBOB season. This person is responsible for managing event timelines, delegates tasks to team members, and supports coaches and volunteers assigned to planning tasks.
