From November through March, we routinely host Saturday tree planting events throughout neighborhoods in New Orleans. Tree planting volunteers check in at base camp Saturday mornings at 9:30am and plant until 1pm. This role involves using shovels and pick-axes to plant trees in 15-30 gallon pots, so volunteers should expect some strenuous activity. If you have physical limitations but still want to volunteer at our Saturday plantings, you could help us with greeting volunteers at the check-in table or watching over base camp.

When: Saturday, November 20. Sign-in at 9:15 AM; Announcements at 9:45 AM; Planting from 10 AM – 1 PM.
Where: Pontchartrain Park. Basecamp is at 5500 Piety Dr (NOT Piety St), across the street from Bethany United Methodist Church in Pontchartrain Park. The entrance to Basecamp is located on Feliciana Dr. Basecamp is very close to the planting sites, so volunteers will be walking over together after sign-in.
Please note, volunteers will meet at base camp, receive their team assignments, and then dispatch to their planting locations.
Below are some notes for the planting event:
Please arrive on time. We will start planting promptly at 9:45am.
After check-in at base camp, volunteers will meet up with their planting groups for instructions and walk together to the planting site.
If you think you’ll need a snack to sustain your energy throughout the day, please bring one with you.
During check-in, please proceed to the table with the fewest number of people in line and maintain 6 feet of distance while waiting.
Please let the volunteers running our sign-in tables know if you are part of an organization or volunteer group so they will place you in the correct group.
Wear closed-toed, comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, or any other protection you need from the sun or the elements.
Please bring your own reusable water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day. We will not provide disposable water bottles as part of our commitment to avoid the use of single-use plastics.
We'll provide tools and clean gloves, but you are welcome to bring your own gloves if you have a favorite pair.
Please review the attached tree-planting instructions in advance of Saturday. You may also view this video.
