Crew Leader Training for Arbor Day

WHAT: Learn to lead other volunteers in tree planting and tree care for the 2022 Arbor Day celebration. We will cover proper planting technique, young and mature tree care needs, safe body mechanics, leading volunteers, and PPE & safety.
WHERE: Gates Park (4436 SE 136th Ave, Portland, OR 97236)
WHEN: Saturday, October 22, 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm.
WHAT TO EXPECT: We will review roles and expectations for Crew Leaders on Arbor Day 2022. Following a general volunteer review, participants will divide for role-specific training for either Tree Care or Tree Planting.
- Tree Care - Help existing park trees to improve their quality of life. Work includes light pruning, weeding, and mulching.
- Tree Planting - Plant trees at the park, following proper planting tecniques helps ensure a healthy tree. Work includes digging in urban soils, preparing tree rootball, mulching, staking, and watering.

Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry's mission is to manage and ensure Portland's urban forest infrastructure for current and future generations. Portland’s urban forest consists of 220,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and innumerable private property trees. Urban Forestry is involved in managing or regulating all of these trees to differing degrees. Urban Forestry staff issue permits for planting, pruning, and removal of all public and some private trees and are on call 24/7 to respond to tree emergencies.
