Woodlawn Elementary School Tree Planting
Friday, March 24 2023
Urban Forestry is working with Woodlawn Elementary to plant 20 trees on their school grounds.
For this project, we are looking for adult volunteers* to help students to plant 9 of those trees!
Work will include:
-Setting out tools
-Watching a demonstration on how to properly plant a tree
-Leading elementary students in the tree planting process.
-Helping students dig their hole, lift their tree, and talking them through the steps for tree planting.
-Staking trees
-Cleaning up tools
-- We may be adding more trees to this site. We would plant these 5-6 extra trees as a group after the students head back to class. If you are able to stick around for an extra hour, please sign up for the second shift below.--
Details:
-We will work rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes.
-Snacks and water will be provided to volunteers. Please bring a reusable water bottle.
-Urban Forestry will have gloves and all the tools needed.
*This event is only for adults.
*Volunteers working this event need to have a background check on file with Portland Parks & Recreation. If you aren't sure if you have a background check on file or need to fill out the form, please contact Molly at molly.wilson@portlandoregon.gov.
If you are a Neighborhood Tree Steward or you have planted with us at schools in the past, you likely already have a background check on file.
