POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE: LINKS LOVE HBCUs "FAFSA Workshops and College Fair"
Saturday, January 18 2025
The Service to Youth Facet’s (STY) initiative “LINKS LOVE HBCUs,” which seeks to cultivate pathways to college and career readiness.
The FAFSA Workshop and College Fair program theme and design is "College Preparation As A Pathway To Success."
The focus includes: 1. Academic and Financial Planning for College; 2. Planning for and applying for HBCUs; and 3. Mental Empowerment.
The Service to Youth Facet’s (STY) initiative, “LINKS LOVE HBCUs,” seeks to cultivate pathways to college and career readiness. While LINKS LOVE HBCUs is designed for Grades 8-12 students, this one-day program will emphasize to Grade 12 students who will graduate in the Spring of 2025 and plan to attend college in the Fall of 2025 that college planning time is NOW! Grades 8-11 students will learn about HBCUs and discover that it is never too early or too late to plan for college. The format will include FAFSA workshop sessions, panel presentations, and college booths in the gymnasium.
In addition to the above, we hope this one-day workshop and forum will assist students with college planning and strategy. The forum will include FAFSA support, HBCU history and experiences, and an opportunity to meet and speak with college admissions counselors through a college fair. This event will assist and empower our students by helping them understand the FAFSA, apply for independent scholarships, and learn strategies to access their chosen college.
Your presence will support and assist underserved students in accessing affordable college education. As you know, the U.S. Department of Education has taken steps to improve college access, and we are providing resources to help underserved students gain knowledge about financial aid options, including the Pell Grant and external scholarships. The last integral part of achieving success is introducing our students to HBCUs as potential fits for their academic and personal growth and empowerment.
Students are encouraged to sign up for FAFSA sessions. Attached is the flyer shared with our partners, schools, and community organizations. Training, talking points, handouts, and videos will be provided to support the sessions.
STY thanks you in advance for your support in helping students navigate this important journey. Please make sure you wear your favorite HBCU shirts/sweatshirts!
