The Real Lives of Volunteer Coordinators
A Blog for us to Learn from Each Other
As your organization gets larger, you probably have a need to delegate, especially when it comes to approving hours. As of today, our hour approval system now has that granularity so you can approve them by activity or by a profile field. Here are some common examples:
- If you are in a school and want specific individuals to approve hours per grade level, you would create a profile field to categorize your volunteers and then assign the respective approver to them
- If you are a service organization and want the volunteer location to approve the hours, you can assign them to the organization dropdown
- If you are a club and have specific committee leads do validate the work of the volunteers, you would assign them to the activity dropdown
To get this working on site you need to do the following:
- Make sure you have some activities/organizations or volunteer profile fields listed.
- If you don't have any activities yet you can just go to Organizer Dashboard > Settings > Hour Log and add some
- If you don't have any volunteer profile fields yet, go to Organizer Dashboard > Settings > Volunteers and add some pickers to categorize your volunteers. You will need to categorize them by visiting each one of their profiles in Organizer Dashboard > Volunteers. We hope to roll a way to bulk change volunteers, so if you really want this, make sure to shout to us and we'll prioritize it.
- Assign the approver in the volunteer profile.
- To assign the hours just go to your Organizer Dashboard > Volunteers > [choose a volunteer] > Permissions and you will see a list of all the activities and the volunteer profile.
- You can assign a site wide approver, who will receive all approve hour notifications, or you can assign one for a specific activity.
