Del Ray GardenFest
Sunday, April 21 2024
Details:
- This event is on Sunday April 21 from noon - 4pm (rain or shine) at Nicholas A Colasanto Baseball Field in Del Ray, Alexandria, VA 22301.
- The event is on the "Colasanto Basefield Field" area of the map (attached below). There's a large 12ft gate near the tennis court that will be open on the Commonwealth side of the field to allow us to bring things in/out. That gate will be open from 9am - 12pm for set-up and after 4pm for breakdown; from noon - 4pm, it'll be locked, and the event entrance /exit for the public will be from the Mt Vernon Ave side.
- Dress for sunny weather on an open field and wear sunscreen. Bring some water in a canteen for yourself.
- Scott will set up the Tree Steward booth starting at 11am. If anyone else can help with this, please sign up for that slot.
- Our assigned plot of field will be 20' x 20'. Our Tree Steward booth will be two or three tables and several chairs underneath our Tree Steward canopy. (See attached photos from last year's GardenFest, which was held at another location.)
- Scott will give a 15-minute presentation on Tree Physiology from the main stage at 2:45pm.
- Rachel Lazarus, the event coordinator, be there onsite to help us with anything we might need. Other event volunteers will also be clearly marked by their t-shirts.
- While there are no restrooms on the field, there are plenty of bathrooms available in the adjacent Rec Center and library.
- There are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby if we get hungry / thirsty.
- Please note that there is no electricity available at the event site.
- The event website is https://delrayalx.wixsite.com/gardenfest.
- On the website, you can find the full listing of confirmed booths, the event schedule, and more.
- Please feel free to share the website with anyone you'd like to publicize this event!
DRCA blurb about this event:
GardenFest is a fun, free, educational afternoon of garden-centric demonstrations, informational booths, and interactive activities. We're inviting the neighborhood to come out and learn about all sorts of gardening topics, such as the Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia plant clinic, at-home composting, growing native plants, and beekeeping. We'll give away hundreds of native tree seedlings and seed packets to anyone who wants them! GardenFest is hosted annually by the Del Ray Citizens Association (DRCA).
