Tree Walk in Parkfairfax
Saturday, June 15 2024
Tree Steward Scott Knudsen and Master Naturalist Ginny McNair will conduct a two-hour tree walk around Parkfairfax in Alexandria. The tree walk will be Saturday morning on June 15. It will begin at 8:30am and we will aim for a 120-minute walk.
We'll start near the pedestrian bridge that connects Parkfairfax to Shirlington over I-395. The actual address we will start is the Chinquapin Oak in front of 3573 Martha Custis Drive. (This address is just up the hill from the pedestrian bridge at the intersection of Gunston Road and Martha Custis Drive.) We'll begin the walk by going north on Martha Custis Drive, crossing Gunston and continuing in the direction of the Parc East building.
Tree Stewards and ARMN members are invited to sign up for the walk, provided that they recognize that this will be a tree walk for "beginners" who know little to nothing about trees. (It may be more beneficial for those who are looking for examples of how to plan and conduct their own tree walks in other neighborhoods.)
Because we want the crowd to be predominantly Parkfairfax residents, we want to cap the number of outsiders who attend at twelve. For now, I am capping the number of Tree Stewards who can sign up to six, to allow six ARMN members to sign up for it, too.
Please be sure to bring water as it is expected to be hot and wear appropriate clothing. Hope to see you there!
