Ash Wednesday - Come to Mass OR Just Receive Ashes
Wednesday, February 17 2021
Ash Wednesday is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation, yet an important day to come to church as this day kicks off the season of Lent, the season of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. The distribution of ashes reminds us of our own mortality and calls us to repentance.
So whether you are at home or away, find a Catholic Church and receive your ashes and go to Mass!
At St. A's - Masses are at 7am, 12:15 pm and 5:30 pm and you must sign up to attend at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050544afaa23a4fe3-ashwednesday5
Come to Mass, receive your ashes and earn an hour of Spiritual Work of Mercy service!
OR
Just get your ashes and earn 30 minutes of Spiritual Work of Mercy service.
At St. A's, our clergy will be in the narthex from 10am - 12 noon, 1-3 pm and 6-7pm distributing ashes. Just come during those time periods, receive your ashes and then go into the church for a few minutes of prayer!
Please make sure you arrive with your mask on!
Send a picture of you with your ashes and your mask on to youth@starcc.com!!
As a side note, The Church emphasizes the penitential nature of Ash Wednesday by calling us to fast and abstain from meat. Catholics who are over the age of 18 and under the age of 60 are required to fast, which means that they can eat only one complete meal and two smaller ones during the day, with no food in between. Catholics who are over the age of 14 are required to refrain from eating any meat on Ash Wednesday.
As Lent begins, make it a point to adopt your personal plan of fasting, prayer and almsgiving!
