Ash Wednesday Ashes AND Submission of Picture
Wednesday, February 22 2023
Wherever you may be on Ash Wednesday this year ... make sure you go to Mass and get your ashes! This is not a Holy Day of Obligation, but an important day. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a season of fasting and prayer.
We receive ashes on forehead. Ash Wednesday comes from the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. The practice includes the wearing of ashes on the head. The ashes symbolize the dust from which God made us. As the priest applies the ashes to a person's forehead, he speaks the words: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Alternatively, the priest may speak the words, "Repent and believe in the Gospel."
Find a place to go to Mass and receive your ashes! Here at St. Aloysius, we will have Mass at 7am, 8:15pm, 12:15 pm , 4:15pm and 5:30 pm.
Then, take a pic of yourself or your family with your ashes on your forehead and email it to youth@starcc.com.
You may claim one hour of a spiritual work of mercy!
