BUGFEST 2021 at The Crosby Arboretum!
Friday, September 24 2021
Join us to celebrate and learn about all things buggy! This year’s BugFest will be modified and limited in attendance to abide by health and safety guidelines related to COVID-19 but will still be packed with info and activities for budding entomologists and people who just like bugs. Please call the Arboretum at 601-799-2311 to register in advance as soon as possible (pay upon arrival).
Explore insect collection and identification, arts and crafts, and presentations by MSU Extension Service entomologist Dr. John Guyton, Pearl River County Extension agent Dr. Eddie Smith and Hancock County Extension agent Christian Stephenson. Dr. Guyton’s presentations will be offered virtually and broadcast via Zoom and will be recorded. A link for viewing the presentations during or after BugFest will be posted here and on Facebook prior to the event.
Attendees will move through event stations in small groups, for activities in the “Zoom Room”, the Pinecote Pavilion, on the grounds, and in the Pollinator Garden, where Pearl River County Master Gardeners will introduce you to the plants here and discuss how you can create one of your very own, as well as providing tips for attracting butterflies and other pollinators. Mississippi Master Naturalists will also be assisting with activities. Resources and information will be available on insect-related events and learning opportunities through MSU, including summer insect camps, the Mississippi Entomological Museum and the MSU Arthropod Zoo.
Masks are required for indoor program sessions. Admission both days is $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. Please call 601-799-2311 to register. The Arboretum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
