Global Bird Rescue 2021

Monday, September 27 2021

Volunteers are needed for Global Bird Rescue 2021. Please consider joining the Orleans Audubon Society team.

During the peak of fall migration, approximately 4 billion birds will navigate cities and other developed areas across North America as they travel to their wintering grounds. In the process, millions of birds will collide with buildings. Help migratory birds survive their journey by rescuing those that survive the collision and documenting all window strikes. Join us for Global Bird Rescue from September 27 to October 3, 2021, an annual event hosted by FLAP Canada designed to raise awareness about bird-building collisions and to inspire bird-safe retrofits across the globe. As a volunteer, you can also map and document bird-building collisions year-round.

Global Bird Rescue uses the Global Bird Collision Mapper to document bird-building collisions worldwide. During migration, teams and individuals take to the streets to search for birds that have collided with buildings in their community, record the window strike in the collision mapper database, post to social media to raise awareness about this conservation issue, and to make their own windows bird-safe.

To volunteer, please visit the Global Bird Collision Mapper at https://birdmapper.org/app/ and register as an individual. Then send your name and user name to: OrleansAudubon@aol.com so we can add you to the Orleans Audubon Society team. Dr. Donata Henry is the OAS team coordinator. You can email her with any questions: droome@tulane.edu
