Walk in the Woods - Bogue State Park
Saturday, November 05 2022
Hello All,
Last Saturday’s “Walk in the Woods” was rescheduled to this Saturday, November 5th due to the forecasted weather last Saturday. The destination will be the Bogue Chitto State Park north of Folsom for an off the trail walk to a beach on the Bogue Chitto River. Enroute will be bottomland hardwoods, a touch of an “island of pines” and then the river itself with its riverine habitat.
The walk will be a leisurely stroll with much stopping to observe and identify what we find. This is a group event to learn what we can about the floodplain of this “natural and scenic” stream. Topics will be the varied habitats, the hydrology of this floodplain and perhaps some wildlife. Noted will be that the peninsula created by the river is destined sooner or later to become an island. Lunch will be on the beach.
Meeting time is 9 am on Saturday. (Some emails may have said 10 am.) It is an hour’s drive from the south end of the causeway to the parking space at the park’s interpretive area where we will meet. Dress for the forecasted weather and bring lunch and drink. The forecast now for Folsom for Saturday is a high in the lower 80s with some chance of rain.
The walk on Saturday will be an opportunity to explore a portion of this forested park that most visitors never see or experience. If you can join us, please send me a note that you are coming along with your cell phone number.
