Debt Free Justice California - conduct surveys outside traffic courts
Wednesday, December 01 2021
Debt Free Justice California is working to help support legislative and budget efforts to convince the Governor why getting rid of a particular fee—the civil assessment (Cal. Penal Code section 1214.1)—is unnecessary and only harms low-income and Black and Brown Californians.
Debt Free Justice California is asking volunteers to spend time outside of traffic court in your county and stop people as they exit the building to ask them if they might be able to answer a few questions. You can spend an hour or the whole day for one day or multiple days—totally up to your availability! To be safe, you may want to call the specific court ahead of time just to confirm that they are holding in-person traffic court and during what hours.
Here is the survey tool that you will use: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSckfEsbYN9A56uo2w1mDUmmkc873vps.... Linked (https://bit.ly/3rqufVb) is a recorded training by the wonderful Rio Scharf, an attorney at the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights of the SF Bay Area, about how to administer the survey. Please watch before going to court and let us know if you have any questions,
Feel free to reach out with questions and let us know if you have any feedback about the survey tool as you begin to use it.
THANK YOU AGAIN!
