LAFLA Eviction Trial Prep Clinic
Friday, March 18 2022
The COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed physical, economic, and social turmoil in our communities—exacerbating the already strong links between poverty, inequality, and homelessness. Thousands of tenants face homelessness right now and need urgent help navigating a patchwork of eviction protections. With your help, we can increase our reach to serve tenants facing eviction through remote clinics. Each month, LAFLA holds a trial prep remote clinic dedicated to helping clients prepare for their eviction trial, and we invite law student volunteers to join us at our upcoming March 18th clinic.
Under the guidance of a LAFLA supervisor, volunteers will help tenants by explaining the court process, reviewing eviction defenses, and exploring alternative solutions to trial. Students will have the opportunity to learn about an important area of law that affects so many individuals and families in Southern California, in addition to the unique civil procedure in a limited jurisdiction setting. They will also get the opportunity to interview clients and help them identify relevant facts and documents to support their case. Please note that students who have taken an Evidence course are eligible to volunteer at this clinic:
Interested students can sign up by completing our Trial Prep Clinic Signup Form by this Friday, March 11th: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=_VjDz79ld0GABeUhP8QA...
