NLG-LA Court Watch Training
Monday, March 14 2022
NLG-LA is resuming in-person Court Watching and are conducting an upcoming (virtual) training on Monday, March 14 at 6-7:30 pm.
Working with community partners—including Youth Justice Coalition, Ground Game LA, ACLU of Southern California, as well as criminal defense attorneys—NLG-LA trains court watchers and brings them into criminal courts throughout Los Angeles to observe and report about proceedings.
The purpose of Court Watch LA is to monitor and expose exorbitant fines and fees, criminalization of poverty/homelessness, as well as disparate impacts of criminal punishments on communities of color.
After training, Court Watchers can go to court watching sessions at courthouses around the county and sign up for 2-3 hour shifts Monday- Friday, with most shifts in the morning and a couple of afternoon shifts at specific courtrooms.
