Court Watch LA: Zoom training to do criminal court observations with NLG-LA
Wednesday, June 15 2022
Hosted by ACLU SoCal:
Presented by Rebecca Brown and Adrienna Wong With increasing rates of homelessness and a subsequent rise in arrests for trespassing and loitering, unjustifiably high fines, fees, and bail are levied upon low-income individuals. We have also seen the continuation of disproportionately high rates of prosecution of Black and Latinx individuals in Los Angeles.
Court Watch LA began in June 2019 when organizers from several social justice groups strategized on how to hold prosecutors and judges in the criminal courts accountable for their actions. Come learn more about the practices in misdemeanor courts and the criminalization of poverty. The end of the session will also include an opportunity to sign up to volunteer as a Court Watch LA observer if you are interested.
