Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network: Afghan Pro Se Asylum Clinic [Sign up by 7/17]
Saturday, July 23 2022
GAIN is hosting the upcoming Afghan Asylum Clinic scheduled for Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.The clinic will be held at the International Rescue Committee Office located at 2305 Parklake Drive NE, Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30345.
The clinic is being held in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Catholic Charities of Atlanta (CCA) in order to serve the hundreds of IRC Afghan parolees in need of assistance with filing their asylum applications. Please note that these clinic participants have been pre-screened by IRC, and clinic participation is by appointment only.
During the clinic, volunteers will be paired with a clinic participant to work on a draft of the participant's affidavit in support of his/her asylum application. The clinic participant may have family members attend with him/her, but volunteers are only assisting the primary asylum applicant with his/her affidavit. An in person interpreter will be available.
Once volunteers are confirmed and assigned to a case, they will receive a confirmation email with the clinic participant's intake form, asylum training materials and templates, as well as a short clinic orientation video. These resources will prepare volunteers to participate in the clinic and GAIN and IRC staff attorneys will also be available to answer any questions that may arise. Lunch will be provided.
