Georgia Justice Project General Pardon Clinic
Saturday, January 28 2023
Georgia Justice Project is seeking law student volunteers to help low-income clients break down barriers to employment, housing, occupational licensing and other essentials caused by their criminal record.
Volunteers will work with a GJP client on an application for a general pardon in a clinic setting on Saturday, Jan. 28th from 9 a.m. to about 12 p.m., with some additional follow-up work to be done to collect supporting documents during the three weeks following the clinic.
A pardon is a certificate of rehabilitation that in Georgia is granted by the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. While a pardon alone does not expunge a conviction from someone’s record, a new law went into effect in 2021 that creates path to expungement after a case has been pardoned. GJP will provide training, via two recordings that students can watch at their own pace prior to the clinic, and GJP staff will be onsite during the clinic to provide support.
If interested, please submit a resume and a short letter of interest (no more than 1 page) to Erin Donohue-Koehler erin@GJP.org by January 20th.
