Southern Legal Center for Youth: Shelter Rights Project

Wednesday, August 28 2024

Project Description:
The Southern Legal Center for Youth is seeking law student volunteers to attend a listening session with young people experiencing homelessness who have accessed shelter in Atlanta on Wednesday, August 28, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Student volunteers must bring a laptop to take detailed notes over the course of the session and assist with the interview process.

After the listening session, volunteers need to write a memo that summarizes the findings from the listening session and identify legal issues. Volunteers will learn about due process rights to shelter at the listening session and will also be able to work with a supervising attorney who is an expert in this area of the law.

Finally, student volunteers are expected to attend a de-brief meeting (2 hours) in-person or virtually on Wednesday, September 11. (The time is flexible, based on volunteer availability).
