Atlanta Legal Aid Society: Veteran's Law Project, 10/15/24 - 10/21/24
Monday, October 21 2024
Project Description:
The Veterans Law Project assists veterans who are unhoused or experiencing housing instability with legal matters that are creating barriers to achieving housing stability. Project staff and volunteers support veterans through holistic legal services, as well as collaborations for supportive services with local law schools and courts, the VA hospital, and veteran services organizations. The Project handles a variety of civil legal matters including eviction defense, VA benefits, public benefits and health insurance, access to appropriate support services, disability rights, poor housing conditions, end-of-life planning, family law, and consumer law.
Student volunteer tasks will vary from helping a veteran with a public benefits application to working on estate-planning documents to doing an initial interview with a client about their legal issues. This project will take place over the span of a week, and you can work on it remotely at your own pace throughout the week. Assignments will be given on Tuesday and due the following Monday. You will receive an email with further project details the week of your project.
