Taste of Rowing - SCC Parks Event (Masters)

Saturday, May 18 2019

LGRC will again be hosting a “Taste of Rowing” for the public. It is NOT Learn to Row but a very simplified, version that is run by us, for Santa Clara County Parks and Rec, as a “thank you” for allowing us use of the reservoir. The idea is that the rowers have fun, learn a bit, and maybe return for LTR and join the club. All instructions need to be simple, short, and probably stated repeatedly. This counts for 5 hours of volunteering.

We will again have two eights in each session. Classes run from 9:00-1:00 (but volunteers need to be there at 8:30-1:30, if possible; you can “share” a position if you can’t stay the whole time but need to help find a replacement, please)

Everyone needs to be there at 8:30 to help carry down two boats, oars etc. But it’s such a SHORT DISTANCE now, after the rain!! The public arrive for 3 separate classes at:
9:30, ergs until 10, then rows until 11
10:30, ergs until 11, then rows until 12
11:30, ergs until 12, then rows until 1

Again, we need to keep exactly to time and keep all instruction brief, helpful, and positive! This is a TASTE of rowing; the County does all the registration; if folks like it, they may return for Learn to Row. Running 18 people through so quickly requires that we keep strictly to time. And It is, usually, a lot of fun :)

Please click on the + sign next to each volunteer job to view a description of the position responsibilities/requirements.
