Pathways of Hope Backpack: Shop, Assemble, & Deliver

IMPORTANT: To participate in this event, each SLOB member OR their parent must also sign up for Pathways of Hope Backpack: IN-KIND DONATION as this project requires time spent shopping/assembling/delivering AND purchasing items. We envision parents registering for the in-kind donation [spending the money!] and sons registering for volunteer hours [shopping & assembling].

Description:
Volunteers are needed to provide school backpacks and school supplies for the children and teens of local families in need. Both SLOBs and parents can sign up to assemble as many backpacks as they would like.

Steps to participate:
1. Sign up for this event here on Track It Forward. When you sign up, please use the “send a message to the organizer” function to write your name and the number of assembled backpacks you intend to contribute, i.e., Roen Forbes (6)
2. Sign up or have a parent sign up for the Pathways of Hope Backpack: In-Kind Donation. If you are counting on a parent to purchase the supplies, be sure they have agreed to do this and have them sign up for the In-Kind Donation BEFORE you sign up for this event.
3. SHOP & ASSEMBLE - Purchase the number of backpacks you agreed to donate and assemble. For each backpack purchased, you will load it with no less than 6 new, unused school supply items provided in the list below.
4. DELIVER - Write your name on a piece of paper and safety pin it to the assembled backpack. Then drop off your backpacks on August 3rd or August 4th between the hours of 8am – 9pm at the Ramsey-Forbes residence at 756 Stephens Ave. Fullerton, CA 92833. Your name will be removed from the backpack before it is donated to Pathways of Hope. If you need to drop it off earlier, text Annik to arrange a time. All backpacks must be turned in by August 4th at 9pm.

Include a minimum of 6 new/unused items inside each backpack:
• spiral notebook
• folders
• loose paper
• notebook
• pens
• pencils
• markers
• highlighters
• erasers
• scissors
• glue sticks
• crayons
• watercolor paints
• expo markers
• pencil pouch
• hand wipes
• pocket hand sanitizer
• small Kleenex packets

Tip: We recommend shopping at Five Below. Backpacks are only $5 and many of the supplies will be available there and affordably priced! We estimate a total of $10 - $12 per backpack including the supplies. It is not required to purchase from Five Below, feel free to be generous. Walmart has affordable character-themed options that kids will love.

Can a parent purchase all the supplies AND participate in the Volunteer hours along with their son? YES! The more backpacks the better!
When you sign up for the Pathways of Hope Backpack: In-Kind Donation, use the “message the organizer” function to note both your name and your son’s name and how many each of you are donating, i.e., Annik R (6) and Roen F (6).

Hours Logged: Volunteers can earn a maximum of 2 hours. Track it Forward will default to the minimum # of packs. Adjust the hours accordingly based on the number of actual backpacks donated:

1-2 backpacks = 0.5 hours
3-5 backpacks = 1 hour
6+ backpacks = 2 hours
