Field Training:Community Wetland Survey Team

Saturday, March 09 2024

Join our team as we monitor the health of our wetlands to better inform our management practices and share the importance of wetlands with our community. This is an ongoing community science project measuring the presence of wetland life in and among the various wetland sites throughout the Crossroads preserve.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in learning more about local wetlands being trained in field science protocols and data collection relating to: Frog Calls, terrestrial amphibian encounters, macroinvertebrate sampling, and amphibian egg mass surveys.

This field training day will cover the details of the surveys for new volunteers and serve as a refresher for volunteers who helped out last year. We will be discussing survey sites, protocols, equipment and resources for volunteers as well as assigning teams thro their sites. If you are interested in joining the team you may sign up by filling out the Google form here: https://forms.gle/SeL2VaZFoPmxZYW48

Surveys occur regularly from March – June and requires volunteers to be comfortable walking in and around wetlands and other unstable terrain in a variety of conditions. Families are welcome, but children must be 12 years old or older and always accompanied by a parent or adult. If this is something that interests you, or you have questions about the project, please contact corey@crossroadsatbigcreek.org for more information.
