GLIDE is a nationally recognized center for social justice, dedicated to fighting systemic injustices, creating pathways out of poverty and crisis, and transforming lives. It's mission is to create a radically inclusive, just, and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break the cycles of poverty and marginalization. GLIDE's DailyFree Meal program serves over 2,000 meals daily; offering three meals a day to the poor, homeless, and hungry. The Daily Free Meal program is GLIDE"s largest program and often serves as a gateway the organization's other services.
The Daily Free Meals program emphasizes culturally appropriate meals, with choice and variety, and an environment where those can eat with dignity.
Transportation will depart Athenian by 8:15, with pick ups at Lafayette and Rockridge BART stations. Return to Athenian is anticipated by 2:45pm. All volunteers must abide by the host organization's expectations including dress code (nonslip closed-toe shoes, ankle length pants, midriff covering shirts with short or long sleeves). Please do not bring non-essential personal items, as there is not storage space available.
This is a 9th and 10th Grade Service Activity. You are expected to attend pre-service and post-service sessions during Wednesday Community Service on January 22 & 29. A GLIDE waiver will be provided and must be turned in on January 22.
