Houston Grand Opera Guild

The HGO Guild was founded in 1956 and continues a long tradition of contributions to HGO, although it has changed during its history to meet the needs of HGO. Today’s HGO Guild volunteers come from all walks of life and are as diverse as Houston itself. An HGO Guild volunteer may be a young professional just starting out in the workforce or someone who has retired after many years of corporate service. A volunteer may hold a Ph.D. in advanced studies or be a ‘domestic engineer’ with years of on-the-job training.

The HGO Guild has been the recipient of national awards for its programs that provide hospitality to visiting artists, its originality in fundraising through the Opera Boutique, and for its outstanding volunteers. Many programs created by HGO Guild have been replicated in other volunteer organizations.
