Housing Element Investigation and Litigation Prep - Public Law Center
Friday, April 15 2022
With the ongoing homelessness and housing crisis in OC and across the state, there is a greater need to ensure that each jurisdiction is fulfilling its affordable and fair housing obligations. One way to do this is to review jurisdictions' housing element plans and identify areas for enforcement. Students will assist with the pre-litigation process, including the review, investigating the jurisdictions' compliance through Public Records Act requests and other methods, and researching possible remedies for Orange County's low-income residents. Additionally, with new state allocations of housing needs and upcoming requirements to update housing elements, students will help monitor and provide advocacy during this process. Students will work closely with Public Law Center attorneys.
