Covid Behind Bars Data Project - Identifying Sources of Data on Health in Prisons and Jails Nationwide

Tuesday, October 24 2023

The UCLA Law Behind Bars Data Project is looking for 2 students to work with our data science & health policy research teams. The students will research data sources that publish important health variables for both prisons and jails nationwide. The end product will be a document that includes all the possible data sources the students are able to find, along with the type and quantity of data the sources provide.

Over the last three years, our project has gathered thousands of records on deaths in U.S. prisons and jails. Our project’s data is an essential resource for monitoring conditions in carceral facilities and for supplementing now defunct Department of Justice reports on mortality in U.S. prisons and jails.

Location:

Remote

Time:

Training will be held at 9:30 a.m. and work can be completed at any time during the day on Tuesday, October 24.
