Atlanta Legal Aid Education Advocacy Project (LEAP)
Friday, May 13 2022
The Legal Aid Education Advocacy Project (LEAP) is looking for a few great student volunteers. LEAP seeks to fight discrimination in our schools through training pro bono attorneys to represent Georgia students in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and school discipline cases.
Pro Bono attorneys will be assigned a family to represent in school cases for a school year when ready.
Student volunteers will support the Pro Bono attorneys, attend training, do legal research, help to communicate with clients, and possibly support legal writing in appellate cases.
There will be a weekly zoom meeting for the LEAP cohort. Attendance will be encouraged but not required. Most training will take place during the time period of that weekly zoom meeting; an initial training will be in-person (but Covid safe).
LEAP will need a maximum of three student volunteers so that the program can provide a quality experience of pro bono education work with pro bono attorneys."
There will be Monday meetings from 11 am-1 pm every Monday, and most lessons will be during this time period.
Students will be providing support to pro bono attorneys but should expect to only work on LEAP projects a couple of hours a week.
